Election Hysteria

I've grown more than tired of the election hysteria this year. I'm not talking about what I see on tv and pull out of the mail box, I can understand that. No, I am more than tired of what I hear coming from the church.

As Christians I do believe we should exercise our right to vote. I do believe abortion is a travesty and we should stand for justice for those who can't stand for themselves, and I think there are other issues that are important as well. But my hope is not in our government.

The amount of fear based thinking coming from the church is incredible to me. I receive emails almost daily that are dripping in fear. For instance, I got a lengthy email a couple of weeks back in which part of it talked about how Obama's grandmother was in Kenya killing chickens to affect the election here. Even if that is true, which I highly doubt, am I honestly supposed to walk in fear of what some little old lady is doing to chickens in Africa? If that be the case I have a lot more to worry about than just who the next president will be.

1 Peter says "...Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have..."

Hear that? The hope that we have not why we are so afraid of what may or may not happen.

Psalm 46
1 God is our refuge and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble.
2 So we will not fear when earthquakes come
and the mountains crumble into the sea.
3 Let the oceans roar and foam.
Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!
Interlude

4 A river brings joy to the city of our God,
the sacred home of the Most High.
5 God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed.
From the very break of day, God will protect it.
6 The nations are in chaos,
and their kingdoms crumble!
God’s voice thunders,
and the earth melts!
7 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us;
the God of Israel[b] is our fortress.
Interlude

8 Come, see the glorious works of the Lord:
See how he brings destruction upon the world.
9 He causes wars to end throughout the earth.
He breaks the bow and snaps the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.

10 “Be still, and know that I am God!
I will be honored by every nation.
I will be honored throughout the world.”

11 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us;
the God of Israel is our fortress.

My hope is in Jesus.
All my eggs are in His basket
He is the only one with the words that give Life
